WHAT IT IS
The movie is the straight man. You’re the comedy.
Once a month we put a gloriously bad old movie on the big screen, bring the house lights halfway up, and let the room tear it apart. Flying saucers on strings. Monsters in gorilla suits. Dialogue nobody should ever have said out loud, said out loud anyway. You are invited — encouraged, really — to talk back to all of it.
If you’ve seen Mystery Science Theater 3000, you already know how this works. If you haven’t: a roomful of people watching a terrible film together turns out to be funnier than the film ever was, and that only happens in a room. It is the one kind of movie night you cannot get at home on the couch.
ADMISSION
Members
Every Heckle Night, any tier. Give your name at the box office, the same as any other visit — and it doesn’t use up a monthly free admission if your tier has them.

Half an evening ticket, and the same $4 our members pay any other night of the week. No ticket needed in advance — come to the door.
HOW IT WORKS
- Shout it out. Jokes, groans, running gags, sound effects. The movie can take it; it has had decades of practice.
- Heckle the movie, not each other. The one rule that matters. Everyone in the room is on the same team, and the film is the only thing in here without feelings.
- Keep it PG. This night is all ages, and there will be kids in the room. Aim the joke somewhere a ten-year-old can follow it.
- Short and sharp beats long. Get the laugh and let the next person have a turn. A bit that outlasts the scene stops being a bit.
- Don’t drown out the film. If the people two rows over can’t hear the next line, nobody gets to joke about it.
- Sit up front. Fill the front half before the back. A room spread thin doesn’t laugh, and this one needs to.

WHY THESE MOVIES
Every Heckle Night film is in the public domain — made decades ago, owned by nobody now, and ready for a second life as a comedy. That is not a compromise, it is the whole premise. A film has to be a little bit terrible before a room full of people can improve it, and the ones that fell out of copyright are terrible in the most generous possible way: earnest, cheap, and completely convinced they are working.
It also means nobody has seen most of them, which is the other half of the fun: the room is finding out what happens at the same time you are, and a plot twist nobody saw coming gets the biggest laugh of the night.
QUESTIONS WE GET
- I'm not funny. Should I come?
- Yes. Half the room is there to laugh at the other half's jokes, and that half has the easier job. Nobody is keeping score.
- Can I just watch quietly?
- You can, but the room won't be quiet, and that isn't a fault in the room. If you want a normal screening, every other showtime we run is one.
- Can I bring my kids?
- Yes. Heckle Night is all ages, and we ask the room to keep the jokes PG — it's a house rule rather than a rating, and we'll say something if it drifts. The films themselves are old, cheap and harmless.
- I'm a member. What do I pay?
- Nothing. Every Heckle Night is free for members — give your name at the box office, the same as any other visit. If your tier includes free admissions each month, this doesn't use one up: the whole night is free for members, not just the first few through the door.
- What movie plays?
- Something old, cheap and gloriously bad, and always in the public domain. The dates on this page fill in with the title as soon as the booking is set, usually two or three weeks ahead.
- Do I need a ticket in advance?
- No. Come to the door. If a night looks like it's going to fill, we'll say so on Facebook first.
- Is this Mystery Science Theater 3000?
- No, and we're not affiliated with them. We mention the show because it's the fastest way to explain what this night is. The movies are ours to pick and the jokes are yours to make.
- How loud is too loud?
- If the person two rows over can't hear the next line of the movie, that's too loud. The film has to stay audible — it's the straight man, and the jokes don't work without it.
