CRAFT CINEMA NIGHT
The last Tuesday of every month, we turn the lights down instead of off — so you can keep your hands busy while the movie plays.
WHAT IT IS
A movie night for people who can’t sit still with empty hands.
Once a month we run a screening with the house lights dimmed rather than killed — low enough for the picture to look right, bright enough to find your place in a row of stitches. Bring whatever you’re working on. Knitting and crochet, cross stitch, embroidery, hand quilting, beadwork, a sketchbook, a coloring book, a journal. Sit with it for two hours and let someone else do the entertaining.
We run this one with Rivertown Community Arts Center, a few streets over on Market Street. Their members pay our member rate. Everyone else is welcome at regular evening admission — you don’t need to belong to anything to come, and you don’t need to bring a project. Plenty of people just come for the movie.

HOW IT WORKS
- The lights stay on, dimmed. Not a dark house. You’ll be able to see your work without a headlamp.
- Bring your own project. We don’t supply materials and we don’t teach. This is a room to work in, not a class.
- Keep it to your seat. If it fits on your lap and in the seat beside you, it’s fine. Sewing machines, easels and anything that needs a table or an outlet are not going to work in here.
- Nothing wet, nothing loose. No paint, no glue, no glitter — the same rule our rentals have, for the same reason. Please keep blades away from the upholstery.
- Quiet counts. Talk between friends is expected. Anything that clatters is not.
- Concessions are open as usual. Popcorn is, as ever, a one-handed food.

ABOUT RIVERTOWN
Rivertown Community Arts Center opened in 2024 and is the only arts center in the St. John Valley — a nonprofit, membership-based studio and gathering place on Market Street, with a pottery studio around the corner. Open studios, classes for adults and kids, music, writing, open mics.
QUESTIONS WE GET
- Do I have to be a member to come?
- No. Craft Cinema Night is a regular evening show and anyone can buy a ticket at the door. Being a member — ours or Rivertown's — is what gets you the $4 rate, not what gets you in.
- How do I get the $4 rate?
- Tell us at the box office that you're a Rivertown member, or give us your name if you're one of ours. It's the same $4 off an evening ticket our members get any night of the week — this is just the night it reaches Rivertown's members too.
- Do I have to bring a craft?
- Not at all. Come and watch the movie. The only things different about this night are the lighting and the company.
- What movie plays?
- Whatever is in the 6:30 slot that Tuesday — it's a regular showing, run a little differently. The dates on this page fill in with the title as soon as the booking is set, which is usually two or three weeks ahead.
- How dark does it get?
- Dimmed, not dark. Low enough that the screen still looks like a screen, bright enough to find your place in a row of stitches. If your project needs more light than that, a small clip light is fine — please keep it pointed at your lap.
- What can I bring, and what should I leave home?
- Anything quiet that fits in your own seat: knitting, crochet, cross stitch, embroidery, hand quilting, beadwork, a sketchbook, a coloring book, a journal. Leave the paint, glue and glitter at home, along with anything that needs a table, an outlet or a blade near the upholstery. If you're not sure, call us before you pack it.
- Can I bring my kids?
- Yes — it's a public show and the film's rating is the film's rating, the same as any other night. It tends to run quiet, so it suits a child who has a project of their own to work on.
- Do I need a ticket in advance?
- No. Come to the door. If a particular night looks like it's going to fill, we'll say so on Facebook first.
